Recreational Skating

Recreational is one of the best forms of low impact exercises there is.  It is a great form of transport and with Skate covers (Blade Blox available at Demon Skater) you can go pretty much anywhere without to much through the UK.

Although the UK lags behind comparatively from the rest of the world with attitude to skating and our Great British weather doesn’t make it too easy you can still get involved with the help of the team at Demon Skater, We can kit you out with the best gear right for you and try to point you to the closest rinks for indoor skating, teach you how to skate with our LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES or give you information on National and international skate events for one and all.  Check out the Demon Skater website  www.DemonSKATER.com for further information.

When looking for products generally comfort is optimum.  Decision on recreational skates are dependant on whether you looking for just a bit of fun or some serious long distance.  Wheels vary greatly but for outdoors a softness of nothing less than 78a is a must and it is recommended for all weather skaters considering water shield bearing.      You can buy footwear that looks like skates from many high street stores and these are generally cheaper but beware they may have dangerous plastic wheels and non ABEC rated bearings.  Ankle support to avoid injury is a must for beginners and can be sadly lacking in some of the lower value skates the high street offers. We can provide more information and expert advice from our website or in store WWW.DemonSKATER.com email Bargains@DemonSKATER.com or call us on 01279 444 443 and speak to one of our experienced sales team of skaters.

Ice & Inline Hockey

At Demon Skater we provide ourselves in being the professionals when it comes to hockey.  We will break the 2 sports down for you.

Ice Hockey

Most players first entry into Ice Hockey maybe from seeing Mighty Ducks or Slapshot or perhaps playing games such as NHL 2002/3…  The sport in itself is fantastic in that it has all the favourite elements of other sports.  Its fast exciting, powerful, full contact and specialised.

To get involved it is as easy as contacting your local council for information on your nearest ice rink and then calling the rink.  All rinks usually have a person contact who can give you information on starting out or put you in touch with the manager for your age group.  Don’t worry about being a novice as again most rinks do learn to skate or recreational or beginners hockey in addition to the higher levels.

The governing body is the EIHA (English Ice Hockey association)

Due to the physical nature of the sport most will insist of basic minimum protective kit requirements to ensure they have adequate insurance cover.  Demon Skater can give you advice on the kit you may need as a beginner.  It does vary depending on your size, ability and position but our staff can help you with this.  You don’t even need to be near the store as we offer a full nationwide mail order service and in 95% of cases it is a next day service.

Most Ice Hockey clubs ask for subscriptions or Direct debits for training and this may also include transport if you play in a team to and from away matches, again contact the rinks club to clarify.

For information on Ice hockey products go to WWW.DemonSKATER.com or email us Bargains@DemonSKATER.com

Inline Hockey

Inline or Roller Hockey is thought to be the baby of ice hockey.  This maybe true in the USA and Canada as there are many more rinks but here in the UK there are more roller hockey players than ice hockey players.  The reason for this is that generally the fees are lower you can play anywhere and organised league utilise the thousands of sports centre throughout the UK as well as the handful of dedicated inline hockey rinks.

To avoid the confusion roller hockey is split in the UK into many different factions and governing bodies with different rules.  None of which have true national governing body status.  Demon Skater has links with many of them and we will try and summarize them for you.

Cost is based on 2002/3 fees and the more stars the more expensive,

Region – general area.

Growth – general popularity and growth of the association in terms of membership increasing, static or declining

BRSF – Many of the off ice associations are banding together to come under 1 umbrella to get governing body status to have access to funds those whom have shown an interest or are committed in this are included.  This association is the British Roller Sports Federation

Some, but not all of the most popular associations

Demon Skater can best advise if you are looking to play Roller Hockey which association maybe best for you.  The above information is only for a basic guide and information is provided to the best of our knowledge, further enquiries must be made.  Call us on 01279 444 443.

Protective kit requirements vary hugely from association to association and Demon Skater is aware of the minimum kit required for each.  Inline players generally need less protection than ice and non-checking leagues less still.  Roller kit is lighter and excluding skates are usually cheaper than ice.

Demon Skater has a large full colour catalogue which has all ice and roller products included, please contact us for details on how to order this Bargains@DemonSKATER.com

Aggressive Skating

“Heaven surely is a half pipe” or even a vert ramp.  Aggressive skating was termed so because skaters attack the ramp or rail without fear.  You can find a street course anywhere.  Just grab some Demon Skater Curb wax and wax up a high curb or rail and away you go just keep away from the wrinklies – “they get scared”.  Make sure that you are wearing reasonable Aggro skates and protection.   There is no point in being hard and getting hurt – less skating time. Demon Skater offer every aggressive skate out there, together with  protective clobber, accessories, videos etc WWW.DemonSKATER.com or email Bargains@DemonSKATER.com call 01279 444 443

Organised aggressive skating is limited to sponsored events which include the X games which is international and also manufacturers such as Rollerblade, Salomon events.  You can find a skate park in most towns and contact Demon Skater for information.  There isn’t as yet a recognised governing body for Aggressive skaters but there should be coz there are so many out there.  Demon Skater offer expert advice & products on this an also related sports such as skateboarding and snowboarding contact us www.DemonSKATER.com email Bargains@DemonSKATER.com or call us 01279 444 443
