International for art direction training

The Chairman of the British Film Designers Guild and the principal
behind Film Design International is Terry Ackland-Snow.
Terry has been in the British film and television industry since 1961,
and has a wealth of experience amassed over a 40-year career working in
the UK and overseas with the very best Art Department Technicians.

That experience was behind the decision in 2001 to set up Film Design
International to pass on the vast knowledge, skills and techniques
he has amassed to the new generations of Art Directors and Production
Designers that are up and coming.

Entry Criteria for the four-week Art Direction Course.
As the course is designed to train students of differing art department
experience, we require students to
• show evidence of relevant ability
• their record of academic training
• any paid or unpaid work experience

Terry Ackland-Snow will undertake an informal interview and the
prospective student would need to provide a portfolio if possible,
together with a c.v.
These interviews can take place face to face or if that is not possible
over the telephone.
Film Design International is a Skillset approved training
provider and up to 70% of the cost of the course can be provided if the
student can show that he/she has had a minimum of two years experience
regularly working in the film industry.
The 4 week Art Direction Course teaches draughtsmanship for Film and
Television specifically. It is specially designed to give sound
knowledge of drawing board film techniques.
The five main areas within the course cover; Draughtsmanship, Model
making, Script breakdown, Camera angles and Budgeting.
After four weeks of hard work and intensive study the student will
finish this course having learnt enough to become a useful member of an
Art Department or to help gain a place in a University or College for
Media Studies in Art Direction.
The course takes place within the precincts of one of the UK premier
film studios.
