First News,
an inspiring, educational and educational weekly national newspaper and
website for children, was launched in May 2006. Newsbridge, the
publisher, aimed to create a publication to project children’s views and
opinions. Children’s charities will benefit from the proceeds.
The
Newsbridge management team comprises newspaper editor Piers Morgan and
Nicky Cox, former editorial director of BBC Children's Magazines with a
steering role from investors Steve and Sarah Jane Thomson.
The
launch of First News
was held in Downing Street supported
by famous guests such as The Right Honourable Gordon Brown, Prince
Harry, Sir Richard Branson (who is a First News
contributor) and David Beckham.
First News
presents
the important stories in an easy and understandable way, designed to
stimulate inquisitive children’s minds, the same children that will grow
up to become influential citizens.

Feedback
from the children as well as their schools has been overwhelming and
getting children into the habit of reading at an early age and
developing their awareness of the world will stand them in good stead
all of their lives.
In
September 2006, First News won the Save the Children charity’s
“Outstanding Contribution to Children” award presented by the Princess
Royal.
