EHIC - European Health Insurance Card

The EHIC (the old E111 form) can be used to cover any necessary medical treatment due to either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA). The card entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting and the service provided will be the same as received by a person covered by the country's 'insured' medical scheme.

Making a claim
In the unfortunate event of something going wrong on your holiday, it would pay to have an understanding of the claims procedure before you travel. In most cases, you will be required to provide a police report for a loss or theft of personal items, travel documentation or if your baggage was to go astray. A doctor’s report, hospital notes and medication receipts will be required to support a medical expenses claim.
