Goodwill Art folders resource Art, Craft, Design, Technology, RE and cross-curricular teaching. They access knowledge and understanding of the field loosely called visual culture. Through postcards of art and artefacts, and teaching guides, they develop visual literacy. This is a vital skill in the 21st century — as the ‘creative industries’ become wealth producers.

A flexible resource
For students of any age, examining well-chosen postcards will stimulate interest in art, craft and design.  Collections can be arranged in any order for viewing and discussion.  Individual paintings, sculptures and artefacts provoke widely differing responses, which encourage communication skills and help to inspire practical work.

Covering a global spectrum, Goodwill’s catalogue lists 80 different subjects. Each polypropylene loose-leaf folder contains easy-to-read teaching notes and 25 postcards assembled from museums, galleries and publishers. The postcards are inserted in 4-card plastic sheets, for convenient use and easy storage. They can be studied in the display sheets, removed and used singly, or blown-up on a colour printer (for classroom use only).

The teaching notes — written in collaboration with art educationists and other specialists — consist of succinct yet comprehensive background reading, informative captions for each card and suggested points for discussion and classroom projects.  The length of the notes varies from 12-page Starter Sets to 32-page RE sets.  Texts are copyright but may be photocopied for classroom use.
