What is Habbo Hotel?
Habbo Hotel is a virtual hotel where you can hang out and make new friends. It's designed for young people in the UK, but everyone is welcome.

When you register you 'become' a Habbo and then you can walk, dance, eat, drink and chat in the cafes, restaurants, swimming pools and games rooms. You can even decorate and furnish your own room.

It's not hard to break into conversation for the first time and you'll soon find a friend who has something in common with you. And you don't need to worry - we won't tell anyone your personal details and we've worked hard to make the hotel safe.

You can use the hotel for whatever you want - as a messenger, email system, chatroom, place to hang out with your friends or to meet new people. And yes, there are a few rules, but only to make the experience safe and fun for as many Habbos as possible. Enjoy!

VISITING HABBO FOR THE FIRST TIME

Installing Shockwave
Before you can check into the hotel, you'll need to download Shockwave. There’s a link to it from our home page. It should take less than ten minutes to install. If a 'security warning' box appears when you are installing, just click 'yes' – it’s nothing to worry about.

Checking in for the first time
Once you've done that you're ready to check in to the hotel. Click on ‘check in’ and a new window will open. When the 'hotel loading' bar reaches 100%, you'll see the hotel from the outside.

Creating your Habbo
Now the fun begins! Click in the top box (where is says 'First time here?') to open up the registration window. You'll need to choose a name for your Habbo, decide whether you want to be a girl or a boy and tell us what your mission is. Oh - and don't forget to choose your clothes! You can change everything except your name later, so don't take too long deciding!

Keeping your Habbo secure
Habbo accounts are very safe as long as you have a good password and keep it secret. Good passwords are between six and nine characters long and contain both numbers and letters.

Secure passwords can sometimes be a bit difficult to remember though, so it's important that you enter your email address correctly. Then, if you forget your password, we can email it to you.

MOVING AND CHATTING

The Hotel Navigator
At the bottom of your screen you will see a mini hotel - this is the Hotel Navigator. Click on it to open it up. One tab shows you all the public spaces you can go to - the clubs, cafés, swimming pools etc. The other tab is where you'll find the guest rooms - rooms other Habbos have made themselves.

Moving around a room
It's easy to move inside a room - just click on a square to walk to it. If your feet need a rest, click on or under beds and chairs to sit or lie down. And if you fancy a boogie, click on your Habbo and then click the 'dance' button that appears on the right hand side of the screen.

Chatting
If you want to say something, type in the box at the bottom of the screen and hit the return key. Only the people near you will hear - Habbos further away will see dots in your speech bubble - so choose 'shout' to let the whole room know your thoughts. If you want to whisper something secret to another Habbo, choose 'whisper' and click on them before you hit return.

Making friends
Met someone you like? Click on them and click 'Ask to be a Friend' and a Friend Request will be sent to their Habbo Console. That's the yellow icon next to the Hotel Navigator. If they accept your request, they'll be added to your Friends List.

DESIGNING YOUR OWN ROOM

Getting your own room
Guest rooms are free and you can get one by visiting one of the Room-O-Matic kiosks. You can find these in the Hotel Navigator or in the Lobbies and Cafés (they look like yellow arcade games). You get to choose the name, description and shape of your room and you can decide whether to lock it or let anyone come in.

Decorating and furnishing your room
You can find everything you need to customise your room in the Hotel Catalogue, next to your Habbo Console. There's a huge selection of items, from humble doormats, plants and bathroom suites, to digital TVs, teleports and fully-stocked fridges. But first you'll need some Habbo Credits.

Habbo Credits
Habbo Credits are the hotel's currency. They are kept in your Habbo Purse and can be bought in a variety of ways. To find out more about Habbo Credits, look in your Habbo Purse (it’s the icon that looks like an old-fashioned purse). Always get permission before you buy Credits!

GAMES

Diving in the Lidos
Habbo Hotel has two outdoor swimming pools - the Habbo Lidos. Once you've changed into your swimming costume, you can lounge about by the side of the pool or take a quick dip to cool off. But even better still, you can test your diving skills in the high diver tower. Two Habbo Credits will get you five dives - there's a ticket machine by the lift doors at the bottom of the dive tower.

Other pool games
You can also use your dive tickets to play Wobble Squabble in the Rooftop Rumble - our rooftop pool/cafe area. You stand on inflatables and try and knock your opponent off into the water. The skill is being able to push your opponent while keeping your balance at the same time. Wobble Squabble has a scoreboard so you can see week by week how you're doing. Like with dives, two Habbo Credits gets you five games though if you win, you get to continue playing with the same ticket.

Traditional games
Pop along to the Cunning Fox Gameshall if you'd rather keep dry and play chess, noughts and crosses, poker or battleships. There's a separate room for each game and they're all free!

STAYING SAFE

Keeping in touch safely
The Habbo Console lets you keep in touch with your Habbo Friends through instant messages and email - without revealing your email address. You'll need to send your friends a Friend Request before they appear on your Console, and they have to accept the request.

The hotel moderators
The hotel is patrolled by friendly moderators called Hobbas. Hobbas have special badges next to their names and can alert, kick and ban Habbos who break the Habbo Way (that’s what we call the hotel’s rules). The Hobbas help the Hotel Staff (they've got 'staff' badges) keep the hotel a safe and fun place to hang out.

Getting help
If you have a question about the hotel, the best thing to do is check out the FAQs (you can find them in the Help and Safety section of the home page). But if you are worried about something - maybe you've just seen someone break the Habbo Way - you can call for help, by clicking on the blue question mark in the bottom right corner of your screen.
