Interactive Plasma –
the new form of interactive whiteboard Pioneering schools are
now using interactive plasmas for lessons
|
With the reduction of cost
in plasmas and now their overlays it is now a good time to consider using
interactive overlays in your school. The most popular interactive overlay
is the ITL Eclipse overlay which is designed to compliment the sleek thin
looks of your plasma yet offer the best combination of features available.
First choose the plasma or LCD which suits your application, and then
ITL will make an overlay to fit – they can cover any size or make from
20” to 65”.
The benefits of this solution
are simple – no projectors so no shadows, no cleaning filters, no replacement
bulbs and no glare from the screen. The ITL Eclipse also has an anti glare
coating to cut down on reflections and has an anti scratch coating making
it easy to clean. The touchscreen gives you full control of your computers
programmes and can be controlled by finger or pen.

Case Study
Fullbrook Nursery School in Walsall has installed a 42” plasma TV with an
ITL Eclipse 4 Series touchscreen overlay. The interactive system is mounted
on a fully portable and height-adjustable stand and is used for lessons,
presentations and staff training.
Fullbrook Nursery School, based in Walsall, has
80 children aged three to four. Headmistress, Mrs Elaine Stringer, comments,
“We had researched the potential benefits to our pupils of introducing
interactive touchscreen technology to the school, but were not comfortable
with implementing the more common whiteboard and projector system. We wanted
a system that would be easy to use for very young children and that could be
easily adjusted to their height.
The overlay solution also removes the issue of
having shadows on the screen during use.” The 42” plasma screen with Eclipse
touchscreen overlay was installed in March 2006 and has quickly become an
essential teaching aid at Fullbrook. “Both staff and children have responded
very well to the new interactive system,” says Mrs Stringer, adding, “We
have also invested in a range of specialist teaching applications that allow
the children to really enjoy their learning. The children are captivated by
the strong visual displays and are always keen to get up and work on the
system, which encourages greater concentration and means they are getting
much more from each lesson.”
The ITL Eclipse solution was selected from
several companies put forward by the local authority. “The ITL solution
seemed to provide everything we wanted from a system at a competitive price
and we looked at similar installations elsewhere before deciding to purchase
from them. We were particularly keen on receiving a high level of training
and support to ensure we got the most from the system and ITL has certainly
been able to deliver this. Throughout our relationship, the company has been
very responsive and has always been there for us when needed,” says Mrs
Stringer. The ITL
Eclipse 4 Series overlays have a very slim and stylish frame – adding just
20mm to each side of a flat screen – and are very light and easy to install.
They have a simple ‘plugand- play’ set-up, come complete with versatile
drivers and powerful ‘Interact’ annotation software and are compatible with
all leading flat screen manufacturers including Samsung, Fujitsu, LG, Sony,
Panasonic, Sharp, NEC etc.
The overlays are robust and durable and offer
extra protection for display screens. ITL also provides a three-year on-site
warranty for its Eclipse range.
Mrs Stringer concludes, “The Eclipse system has
delivered everything we hoped for when we decided to invest in interactive
technology. It has proven both easy to use and reliable and is now a key
element in our day to day activities. The system has access to the internet,
which allows teachers to introduce some of the excellent web resources that
are available and we can also use it for staff training and playing videos
during lessons. We are very happy with the solution and look forward to
continuing to expand its positive use in all areas of the school.”
