Lakeside YMCA
Lakeside YMCA is the YMCA National Centre for Outdoor Activities in England and Wales and is one of the largest outdoor education centres in mainland Europe. Situated on the South-West shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park, Lakeside is nestled within a stunning 400 acre woodland estate, offering a safe and secure location within superb surroundings, with access to an unparalleled wealth of land and water based outdoor activities.

Lakeside's Educational Philosophy.
Lakeside has a strong history of being at the fore-front of pioneering work within the outdoor community. Lakeside staff being also able to draw upon a wealth of personal experience that, as a whole, contributes to Lakeside's ability to tailor courses to meet each groups specific objectives and requirements. This flexible approach to course structure allows Lakeside to embrace many aspects into a school or group's programme.

Specialist Courses.
Lakeside is also proud of it's heritage in having pioneered many fresh approaches to outdoor education. These successes include the design and implementation of it's Specialist Courses.

Special Needs
We have a wealth of experience in developing courses for groups who have specific disabilities and needs.

Activities.
Lakeside is able to offer an impressive range of challenging land and water based activities. Each one establishing and developing a mixture of different qualities and skills within the group and individual, providing a sense of both personal and corporate achievement through the challenges set. Course activities also expose students to some of the greater environmental issues impacting the world around us.

Accomodation
(Sommervell House).
Accomodation at Lakeside is split between two sites North Centre and South Camp. North Centre provides year round accomodation comprising of Sommervell House and our new woodland lodges. The Somervell House building offers two residential wings containing rooms with bunk beds sleeping four people per room. The toilet/shower/drying facilities are within the block, as are two bedded bunk rooms for visiting staff with ensuite shower facilities.

Woodland Lodges (North Centre).
Peacefully nestled in the woods around North Centre, these wooden lodges each sleep 8 people (bunk beds). A modern toilet/shower block and drying room are nearby. At North Centre, a relaxing and comfortable lounge, with it's own fridge and unlimited supply of tea and coffee, provides space for peaceful reflection for visiting leaders.

South Camp
South Camp is open between April and September. Situated on the shore of the lake, these secluded tents provide camping in comfort for 8 people, with a raised floor, fly sheet and mattress.

Prices
Our courses are designed to offer groups value for money. All courses include food, accomodation and a structured programme of activities with qualified instruction. We are also able to offer one free Leader's place and a second Leader at half price for every 12 participants booked.
