Dyslexia
- affects one in ten British people and impacts all of us, either directly
or indirectly.
Learn How To Learn is an organisation who’s purpose is to enable
students to reach their full potential. To develop their self-confidence
and express themselves fully and confidently in all areas of life.
The impact of dyslexia is different for each person and is often
accompanied by wonderful talents in art poetry, design music, sport and
more.
Consultants at Learn How To Learn understand that dyslexia is not a
single disorder but a combination of related difficulties.
The Learn How To Learn programme is an effective and proven 28day
programme combining physical exercises, learning strategies and memory
games.
It is consistently successful in improving academic and social skills,
self-esteem and self confidence.
Excellent results are seen immediately and developed at home by
practising.
Dyslexia – what is it?
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty marked by the impairment of the ability
to recognise and comprehend written words.
Associated learning difficulties are with spelling, reading, sequencing,
comprehension, remembering, telling the time, left & right, confusion, and
sometimes maths. Feelings of disorientation; being unable to organise time
or follow a set of instructions sequentially, and sometimes low
self-confidence.
Reading is the understanding of symbols (letters) in order to transfer an
idea or story from one person to another. This is the exchange of ideas
and the communication on which societies are based; therefore it is
expected of us to communicate.
In today’s society the ability to read and write is fundamental for every
aspect of our lives. For instance, internet shopping, sending and
receiving text messages, e-mails, instructions on a product or game,
understanding political, legal and social matters.
Social interaction and communication are important. So having difficulty
in expressing oneself clearly or not fully understanding, can lead to
difficulties in the classroom, in the work place or in a social context.
The effect of these difficulties can effect a persons self-confidence and
students with dyslexia often feel ‘’dumb’ and misunderstood which is
reflected in their behaviour.
At Learn How To Learn we understand that no two dyslexics are the
same. Each person has an individual learning profile and develops their
own strategy for spelling, reading, sequencing and writing. The Learn
How To Learn Programme enables children to realise their full
potential. Results are seen immediately and reinforced and extended
through practising and developing skills at home for twenty-eight
consecutive days when the new strategies become automatic.
Outcomes are that the standard of reading and comprehension improves.
Students develop a new strategy for learning to spell which leads to the
ability to remember spellings and by being able to fully understand what
is read, the pleasure of reading is discovered and school life becomes
easier. Handwriting improves where handwriting was previously poor. The
student develops the ability to remember sets of instructions or
activities.
Confidence and self- esteem are restored as the challenges of day to day
life are met with new skills, and life becomes enjoyable.
