“It was great – I learnt how to learn.”
This is the most widely used comment by students attending our seminars.

Learning Performance Seminars have gained an international reputation for promoting the successful use of study skills within schools and colleges. We know that today’s students are finding themselves under increasing pressure to improve their academic performance. We also appreciate that schools are under increasing pressure to improve grades.

We provide a range of dynamic workshop-style seminars that demonstrate to students how to improve their memory, learn and understand effectively, and to revise efficiently. Approximately one-third of British schools use Learning Performance Seminars each year, meaning that tens of thousands of students have graduated from our seminars. The top five most improved schools in 2003 use Learning Performance Seminars.

These seminars were originally presented at the University of Sydney, Australia, in 1985. They have been developed in the UK since 1992. We have programmes suitable for students from Year 6 upwards. We firmly believe that our study skills strategies are relevant to the current and future needs of students. A sound “learning performance” is a life-long transferable and flexible skill, a prerequisite for success at school and beyond.

What can Learning Performance Seminars do for your school?

Our team of 60 presenters nationwide are available to present a half, one, two, three or four day seminar in your school or college. We offer a range of seminar programmes designed to cater for the needs of students of different abilities and at different year groups.  Our objective is to illustrate and explain the difference between the students’ current performance and their potential performance, and provide new skills to bridge that gap. Whatever your requirements, we aim to meet your needs. Topics available in our seminars include:

* Memory techniques
* Note-taking
* Understanding
* Association Mapping
* Revision Techniques
* Time Management
* Short-term and long-term Motivation
* Stress Management
* Writing Essays
* Goal Setting
* Speed Reading
* Thinking Skills

We also provide a “Parents’ Forum” facility, staff training sessions and an online follow-up website to reinforce what students learned on their seminar.

As a result of attending our seminar, we find that students come away highly motivated towards their studies, possessing new skills that make the most effective use of time, mental ability and resources.  From our experience, they will be keener, more organised and able to cope better with the stresses of studying.  They will feel more confident and competent in their work, and, inevitably, enjoy it more.

“Year 11 students came away from the seminar, having enjoyed the day, really motivated towards success in their exams.”
Carol Bates,
Principal and Chief Executive,
Harris CTC, South London.
Most improved school, 2001.

“Your presenters were a credit to your organisation. The student response has been very positive. It will provide the basis for a lot of our work with year 12 and help them improve their own learning and to be more effective students.”
Chris Dudley,
Head of 6th Form,
Southam College,
Warwickshire.
