MPS Photographic is a family run business, founded in 1949, based at Image House 17, Carliol Square, in Newcastle’s city centre, we have been servicing photographers in the North East since 1949. We are happy to talk to anyone, no matter if you’re a student entering the photographic world for the first time and looking for your first 35mm SLR camera or upgrading to medium or large format cameras, or world weary press / public relations / social and wedding photographers. Our primary customers are the region’s photographers – you.

The Business has two units; photographic retail (shop) and photo finishing (Lab) as well as our sister company The Imaging Company Ltd (digital).

Our shop is the focal point of the business; calling in, you will be welcomed by a small friendly and knowledgeable team. They will help you to make informed decisions on all your photographic requirements. We carry the largest selection of quality, used equipment anywhere in the area, which ranges from simple cameras, to studio lighting, to 5x4 enlargers, to processing machinery. Within the shop we have in-house camera repair facilities to handle all those little accidents – Oops, did I mean to drop my camera! - we all suffer from.

The shop is also the gateway for our lab, with arguably one of the most qualified teams around, with over 150 years experience between them! We can offer a huge range of photographic services. One of our most popular is our 2-hour E6 slide processing, which is quality controlled by Kodak’s Q-LAB quality assurance programme, a service, which no other photo-store in Newcastle can offer. With a full range of services to satisfy most needs, these include pro –proof packages, hand made colour prints, which can be cropped, shaded and printed to your exact specifications. Another service is that of Cross Processing, again we are the only photo-store in Newcastle who can offer you this service. We can also offer the Newcastle’s only true black and white services. Our in house exhibition service, prints up to massive 4 foot X 8 foot on a single page using the LightJet 5000 large format digital printer. Prints can be mounted on to various substrates – Kappa, Foamex and MDF, they can then be laminated for durability and protection. 

With our sister company – The Imaging Company, we offer a full digital service, again with many services offered to both the professional and enthusiast alike, services such as digital film writing - which produces 35mm, 120, 5x4 and 10x8 transparencies from your digital photographic files or PowerPoint presentations. A high end scanning service for all film sizes up to 10x8 and of course writing image files to CD.
