Newquay Zoo started out in
the early sixties. Initially Newquay Zoo was a small pets corner, although
over the years the zoo has gone from strength to strength, with ground
breaking and innovative conservation programmes, remunerated with 11 major
awards, Its no wonder Newquay Zoo has proved to be one of the best
attractions in the South West today.

From 1994 to 2003,
Newquay Zoo was privately owned by Mike Thomas and Roger Martin, who
developing the zoo, installing a revolution partnership with St
Austell College, establishing the development of an educational
facility on land adjacent to the zoo, catering for BTEC and HND
studies.

HND stands for Higher National Diploma - HND ZOOLOGICAL CONSERVATION
MANAGEMENT
BTEC stands for Business and Technology Education Council. This course
develops a broad range of skills in job-related areas - BTEC ANIMAL

The courses covers many
units for example; animal health, animal handling, nutrition, business
elements, IT, lab practice, biological and physical sciences, practical
work experience, ecology and physiology. Both courses are based at Newquay
Zoo, were zoo staff are involved in teaching the theory and practice
within these courses.
In 2003 Newquay Zoo and Paignton Zoo joined force. Today both zoos are
part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust Family. Specialising in
breeding many endangered species, Newquay Zoo is at the forefront of
conservation, education and entertainment. Leading the way in exciting
innovative enclosure design, enrichment and free ranging animals.
