Help with HomeWorks
Think of a world where pupils file quietly into the classroom,
sit attentively at their desks and retrieve their
state-of-the-art laptops or wireless enabled PDA from their bag.
When they are all up and running, the class looks up at you with
expectant admiration, anticipating another session of learning
and discovery…
This dream scenario may sound like the ultimate in wishful
thinking, but PC World Education together with the e-Learning
Foundation have teamed up to make this inspirational idea one
step closer to reality.
How it works
For years, few gained access to ICT equipment. However, the
launch of the HomeWorks initiative means that pupils can have a
portable learning device for as little as 50p per day.
HomeWorks encourages schools and parents to sign up to one from
a range of tailored packages designed to fund ICT equipment over
time. It comes with warranty protection, accidental damage and
theft insurance extended for the full length of the scheme.
Funds can be managed by the e-Learning Foundation’s (DMS) Donation
Management Service.
This
programme should not be perceived as ‘procurement activity’ the
school is not funding the device acquisition, but through these
programmes engaging with their ‘parent body’ to help fund the
school’s ‘education vision’ over a period of time. |

The schemes
Here’s a quick summary of the various ways that you can help
pupils at your school get their hands on ICT. In every case, PC
World Education’s HomeWorks team can advise and project manage
every aspect of each programme, working in partnership with the school. |
HOMEWORKS
|
This is a hassle-free
scheme that provides pupils with their very own laptop or PDA. There
is a choice of 20 different models for them to use for the duration
of their school days, and it can be as little as 50p per day. |

The PC World
Education HomeWorks team manages the whole process, so your
school is relieved of any unwanted administration
responsibility!

COMPUTERS FOR PUPILS
This is a government-funded programme that allows
Local
Authorities & schools to
take advantage of grants to buy ICT equipment through PC World
Education. This means economically disadvantaged pupils can have
a computer at home to help them with their education.

EQUITY 1
To ensure that no child is excluded from owning a
computer on financial grounds, schools can apply for a
grant from the e-Learning Foundation. It can also use
the Donation Management Service to minimise
administration and attract Gift Aid
on
parental donations. Equipment can be
leased or purchased from PC World Education.
Student ownership may be an option at the end of the
programme.
EQUITY 2
With this option the school can establish its own status
as a charitable trust to receive parental donations.
Although this means more administration responsibility,
the good news is that the school benefits from the full
28p-per-pound Gift Aid. Furthermore, if this is your
school’s first Equity scheme, then you’ll be eligible to
get your hands on a grant to support the launch of the
scheme through the e-Learning Foundation.
