Pedigree Adoption Drive 2008

From the 1st January to 31st March, Pedigree pledged its support to highlight the plight of homeless dogs across the country by launching The Pedigree Adoption Drive campaign. Together with ex-Men Behaving Badly star and dog lover Neil Morrissey, Pedigree joined forces with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and over 50 re-homed dogs and their owners to raise money for abandoned dogs in the UK , through the sale of Pedigree products.

Ex-Men Behaving Badly star, Neil Morrissey, says "I adopted my dog, Tiggy, and she is the most well behaved and lovely dog. There is a misconception that dogs from rescue homes will be badly behaved. They just need a loving home as all dogs deserve. I urge anyone who is thinking about getting a dog to consider rescuing an abandoned one. I did it and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done".

Over 100,000 stray dogs were found in the UK last year
and further research commissioned by Pedigree revealed that one in ten dog owners hadn’t considered getting a dog from a rescue home**. Believing that every dog deserves a loving home, Pedigree launched this campaign to encourage people thinking about getting a dog to consider adoption as a possibility. To make sure that this is a successful process, all re-homing centres work hard to ensure a suitable match for owner and dog, meeting the specific and individual needs of both to maximise a long and happy life together.

Stephen Rendu, Pedigree Marketing Manager says: "Every dog deserves a loving home whatever the breed and wherever they are in the UK, the importance is matching the right dog to the right owner. The Pedigree Adoption Drive will not only raise money but also awareness on the issue of abandoned dogs and help more dogs find a loving place to live."

All of the money raised by The Pedigree Adoption Drive campaign will now be distributed to rescue centres across the country by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust. For those of you that are interested in finding out more information on your local re-homing centre and advice on dog adoption, please go to www.pedigreeadoptiondrive.com. The site hosts a search facility and provides advise on Responsible Dog Ownership to help people who are looking to give a loving home to an abandoned dog. Here you can also follow the journey of the abandoned dogs featured in the latest advertising, all of whom have now been re-homed by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
