Mum, aren't you
pleased that all those soapsuds now amount to more than just clean clothes?
Let's say your
household purchases a 30wash box of Persil powder per month. This means you'll
contribute 60 Persil Stars over the 6-month token collection period. At the
same rate of collection, a class of 30 children would collect over 1800 Persil
Stars!

This number could
be redeemed for items such as a Giant Face Painting Kit and Brushes which
contains a rainbow of colours with enough gold, silver and sparkle pink to
paint 200 faces, or a Classroom-Sized Creative Craft Paper Pack with metallic
corrugated sheets in blue, gold, silver, red, green and black to add both
texture and dimension to art projects. While the more adventurous could collect
for a Glass Painting Craft Pack which contains transparent peel-able paint
ideal for painting onto acetate or glass to make colourful images- all worth
well above the average amount allocated per child on art and craft resources.

About the scheme
What is 'Get creative with Persil'?
'Get
Creative' is a new initiative from Persil designed to encourage children's
creativity and learning through play. By collecting Persil Stars from special
packs of Persil, schools can get their share of at least £7million pounds of
free materials.
About creativity in education
Why is Persil involved in creativity?
We
know from our in-depth discussions with parents that many are keen to invest in
their children's development and education and so welcome any opportunities to
take an active role in improving learning facilities or techniques. They
recognised that encouraging creativity in the classroom sets up a great
environment for learning.
Indeed,
by using art and craft materials, young people discover how to develop original
ideas and actions - a skill that helps expand their understanding in all
subjects. However, this is an area which is currently lacking resources.
According to the Artworks Survey in July 2001 , some schools have as little as
60p a year per child for art materials, with infant schools spending on average
£1.18 a year per child and junior schools spending just 11p more per child.
Has Persil encouraged children's
creativity before?
In
May 2002, Persil made its first steps into the children's art arena, with the
launch of the 'Persil Big Mummy' challenge - inviting children to contribute a
portrait of their mum, dad or grandparent or guardian in an attempt to create a
new Guinness World Record for the largest picture mosaic.
Over
15,000 children took part, and the giant work of art - approximately 400 square
metres (the size of eight double decker buses) was created and unveiled at
Alexandra Palace in London at the end of August.
Persil's
activity also builds upon a long-term commitment by Unilever to support and
encourage children's art. The Unilever International Schools Art Project
reflects Unilever's commitment to creativity, art and education. For more

How can schools get involved?

www.persil.com/getcreative
2)

3)

What will schools receive once they
have registered?
Once
a school is registered, it will receive a starter pack containing:
-
A 'Get creative with Persil' catalogue with full details of the wide range of
materials the can choose from and their Persil Star value, plus order forms
-
Four wallcharts on which to attach and collect the Persil Stars, as well as a
glue stick to secure the Stars
-
An annoucement letter for parents
-

Can parents register their child's
school?
Unfortunately,
parents are unable to directly register their child's school as we do require
the consent of the Head Teacher and school itself. However, parents can inform
their school about the scheme and should ask teachers to register by calling
0800 437 0574 or by visiting
www.persil.com/getcreative.
How have you chosen the items
featured in the catalogue?
Persil
has conducted in-depth research through one-to-one conversations with teachers
to identify the types of materials that could really make a difference to
classroom teaching. A leading specialist supplier of materials for schools has
also provided input on the development of the Persil art and craft kits, to
ensure they correspond with the most popular ordered items from their own
product range by teachers - and really are what teachers want.
Will it take up lots of time and
effort?
The
scheme has been specifically designed to make a real difference to schools fast
with the minimum effort from teachers and schools.
How easy is it for schools to benefit
from 'Get creative with Persil'?
How realistic is it that schools will
benefit from the scheme?
The
scheme has been specifically designed so that schools can decide how they want
to take part in the scheme - either as individual classes redeeming Persil
Stars for products that will benefit them directly, or as entire schools
redeeming the Stars for products for the whole school. So the scheme will work
for everyone.
Can tiny village schools or
playgroups benefit from the scheme in any way?
'Get
Creative' has realistic and easily attainable collection targets that will
enable even the nation's smaller schools and classrooms to benefit. There are
around 40 different art and craft classroom packs available, ranging from
creative paper, crayons and paints, to bead and sequin kits and easels.
Teachers can then choose from more than a dozen class-packs of art and craft
materials at just 1000 Persil Stars, scaling up to the highest-value items
available for 4000 Persil Stars.
Timing
When can I start collecting Persil
Stars?
Tokens
will start to appear on Persil packs from early October.
How quickly can schools start to
benefit from the scheme?
Persil
Stars will appear on-pack until at least March 2003. Schools can order their
chosen art materials as soon as they have collected enough tokens and will
receive the products approximately 28 days after placing their order. All
orders for the academic year 2002/3 should reach us by 30th June 2003.
