Fantastic! You’ve decided to
go travelling during your gap year. It’s a great thing to do as you’ll
experience new sites, smells and cultures that will stay with you for the
rest of your life. Before you head off you might want to ask yourself how
prepared you really are. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office reckons some
25% of you will encounter a ‘serious incident’ whilst abroad. Would you
know what to do in the following scenarios?

You have had to stay
the night at Gorak Shep when returning to Lobouche from Kala Patar. In
the middle of the night you hear your roommate coughing violently and
so go to investigate. What should you be looking for and what is the
likely cause of this cough? What should you do?
You are on an organised
trek to Macchu Picchu and you are finding the trekking itinerary
exhausting. Do you tell your guide to slow down or do you grin and
bear it? |

make sure you get the chance to discuss your trip with one of our
knowledgeable and experienced Planet Wise staff, together with any
personal concerns you may have. |
