Contemporary Poetry in the Classroom

The Poetry Book Society is a book club for all students, teachers, readers and writers of contemporary poetry.

Since 1953, when it was founded by T S Eliot and friends, the PBS has been recommending and selling the poetry best titles to its members. For teachers who want to pass on their love of literature to their students, and need easy access to the best new poetry, PBS membership is an invaluable resource.

Philip Larkin, Seamus Heaney, Carol Ann Duffy, Simon Armitage, Ted Hughes – all poets recently featured by the PBS. The collections and anthologies the Society promotes, and the education material it produces support current classroom practice, adding further dimensions to curriculum-based studies and fostering students’ interest in the variety and vitality of contemporary poetry.

Books are sold at discounts of at least 25% - but the PBS is an Arts Council funded, non-commercial book club, so there is never an obligation to buy extra books at all.
