Problem:Teaching young children to read music can be difficult, frustrating and requires endless patience!

Solution: Quavers Music Workshops has developed a unique method of presentation which can make teaching music literacy as easy as A,B C. - and its fun for teacher and pupil!

The Quavers Musicianship Course for Children was founded in Chester on the 1st June 1989, beginning with less than 40 pupils. The workshops have developed into a thriving school attended by around 200 children. Over the years many hundreds of children have benefited from an excellent grounding in sight reading, musicianship and the theory of music....... while having fun! The course, which requires guidance by an enthusiastic, adult with a good understanding of basic music theory and excellent communication skills is now available to be taught countrywide by parents and teachers, to individuals or groups, at home and in schools. It does not require the guide to be a trained teacher or musician, but basic performance skills on either guitar or piano and descant recorder would greatly enhance the enjoyment and effectiveness of the course.

The Quavers Musicianship Course teaches children from 3 years old to read, write, understand and play music. Each new musical concept, however complex, has been analysed, simplified and presented in a way which is both effective and fun. Children are captivated by The Note Family, whose adventures unfold in stories, songs and games throughout the course.
Accompanying the course is a series of colour coded books (children love them) all designed to be coloured and personalised by each child. The children literally work through the rainbow as they progress through the course, quickly learning to recognise the symbols of music notation and how to use them to create and perform rhythmic patterns and then melodies. Children are motivated to learn through interest and enjoyment and using this unique method, will acquire the skills, experience , confidence and motivation to succeed in learning any instrument within their physical capabilities .

The benefits to children of learning to read and play music have long been known to those lucky enough have been taught well at an early age and are now beginning to be widely publicised through current research into the effects of music tuition on the social, academic and personal development of children, but for children on The Quavers Course.... its quite simply fun!
