Background
Whilst visiting Asia in 1982, Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich
Mateschitz discovered a beverage that had a vitalising effect on mind
and body and brought it to Europe - today this drink is better known
as Red Bull.
Selling over a billion cans a year and available in over 72 countries,
Red Bull is the number one energy drink worldwide, and the third
biggest soft drink* in the U.K.
Red Bull has been scientifically proven to support the metabolism,
improve endurance and alertness as well as increase physical and
mental endurance as well as increase feelings of well-being, in short
- to stimulate body and mind! And with an 85% share of the functional
energy drinks market in the UK, Red Bull remains the market leader. |

Red Bull & Sport
The important factors for any sportsperson, particularly in competitive
sports, are endurance, concentration and fast reactions - all of which Red
Bull can improve.
Popular amongst athletes, Red Bull first forged its reputation among
alpine skiers and downhill racers as a functional energy drink that
worked. Since then, Red Bull has developed especially close and varied
links to extreme, fun and adventure sports including; snowboarding, inline
and speed skating, beach volleyball, surfing, sailing, kayaking,
free-skiing, base jumping, freeclimbing, mountain biking, paragliding,
triathlon and windsurfing to name a few.
Supporting those in the industry, Red Bull sponsors many extreme sports
athletes all over the world such as, Basejumper Felix Baumgartner,
Kitesurfer Robby Naish, Kayaker Shaun Baker and Skateboarder Ali Cairns.
Red Bull is also heavily involved in motor sports from Formula One to
Superbikes.

Events
Red Bull's commitment to sports transcends further than just sponsorship,
nurturing and encouraging sporting and creative talent by devising and
organising hundreds of events all over the world.
Although many of these are extreme sports, some are definitely on the more
humorous side. One of the most popular of these is the 'Red Bull Flugtag'
- a loony event, which involves members of the public launching their
home-made and manpowered flying machines off a 6m high ramp into the water
below! Such an event epitomises Red Bull's brand philosophy- communicating
its humorous, self-ironic and nonconformist personality! The Flugtag has
been successful in many countries and took place for the first time
in the U.K on Sunday 3rd August 2003 at London's Hyde Park.

Similar to this is the Red Bull Soap Box race, where entrants build a
wacky car without an engine! In a mini version of the Grand Prix, racers
battle it out against each other on a specially designed helter skelter
style track.
For those who are more artistically inclined, Red Bull is also host to the
'Creative Contest'. Where amateur and professional artists create a work
of art from empty Red Bull cans transforming them into something
spectacular. Last year contemporary artists Tracey Emin and fashion
designer Wayne Hemmingway were on the judging panel.

We are always on the look out for Student Brand Managers with energy,
ambition and innovative thinking to represent the brand on campus. The
Student Brand Manager programme has been running since 1997 and recruits
students each year at Universities across the country.
Student Brand Managers work closely with the marketing team, but also have
the opportunity to create events, liaise with trade partners and get
involved in local and student media. The perfect opportunity to gain
valuable experience in the industry - we'll ask for your input on ideas
and strategy, and occasionally you may be required to visit our London
headquarters to develop these concepts.
Whilst appreciating that it should enhance and support your university
work, Red Bull will support you in this role - providing you with
expenses, materials, training, equipment, a mobile phone (subject to
limitations) and of course, financial reward for your endeavours.
