Merlin Entertainment’s Sea
Life Centres offer an incomparable resource, discovering all about living
creatures in an unique and fascinating environment. There are six Centres
in the UK - Birmingham, Brighton, Blackpool, Great Yarmouth, Scarborough,
and Weymouth. Merlin also operates valuable marine rescue, rehabilitation
and release operations at the National Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, Cornwall,
The Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary in Oban and Sea Life Sanctuary in
Hunstanton.
Each Sea Life Centre allows pupils to get closer than ever imagined to an
amazing array of sea creatures from humble shrimps and starfish to sharks
and stingrays. Some attractions are also home to seals, otters, sea
turtles and even penguins. Every year a new feature exhibition is unveiled
and this year some treats in store include a spectacular showcase of
sharks at Blackpool, Giant Green Turtles at Birmingham and a Penguin
sanctuary at Scarborough.

Sea Life provides a year-round, educational resource bringing learning to
life. Children’s understanding of the amazing world beneath the waves is
greatly extended and ideas are put into context by first-hand discovery.
Specially designed resources have been produced with the help of teachers
and other educational experts in order to ensure that every visit meets
teacher aims as well as ensuring pupils enjoy a rewarding day out. These
include key stage curriculum linked teacher packs for pupils aged 5-11
designed to accompany class visits with tasks and information for use
before, during and post trip. There is a choice of three packs -
These workbooks present an accessible, practical, informative and
curriculum-related unit of work carefully planned to increase children’s
learning and maximize the value of the visit. These can be downloaded from
the education section of our website.
Curriculum linked talks are also available and allow students the
opportunity to come face to face with amazing sea creatures. Each
interactive session captures the imagination and holds the attention
throughout by using real animals and visual aids.
