Shell Livewire is a free support service, founded and supported by Shell UK, open to all 16 to 30 year-olds considering starting, or already running a small business.
 

Shell Livewire is the first and only service of its kind that is open to every young person, from every corner of the UK, and with any kind of business idea. The information and guidance is all tailored and designed to speak to young people in a way that works for them. Shell Livewire gives young people access to free business start up information and support tailored to their needs. This is provided online at www.shell-livewire.org, at training events, and through a Start a Business Toolkit CD-ROM.

The toolkit contains loads of essential information on planning, starting and running a business including; an enterprise route map; ideas generation and personal assessment tools; video role models, and a resource bank to help plan the business. The Shell Livewire website also provides online networking with other aspiring entrepreneurs, and links to local business advice. Young entrepreneurs can also put questions to online mentors who can draw on their own experiences of launching and running their own businesses.

Since it was started by Shell UK 23 years ago, the Shell Livewire formula for helping young entrepreneurs has proved so successful it now has more than 100,000 visitors to its website www.shell-livewire.org every year, with more than 21,000 seeking more tailored advice.

To recognise and celebrate the drive and determination of young people to succeed in business, Shell Livewire also runs its annual ‘Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards’. This prestigious competition has gone on to produce a host of inspirational success stories. Recent finalists have included Innocent Smoothies, Black Circles online tyre retailer and 1st Ethical; an ethical and specialist Islamic financial advisors.
