TriEs
Primary ICT Resources

TriEs Limited (TriEs)
produces unique educational software enabling teachers to assemble UK
curriculum topics into interesting and meaningful lessons, tailoring
material to suit the individual learning styles and capabilities of
individual pupils.
TriEs focuses on subject areas which are essential to the UK schools
curriculum: Science, Literacy and Numeracy. Its products have also been
modified for the Home market. Furthermore, the software can easily be
adapted for overseas.
The products available are:
• KS2 Learning Units: 13 Science units (plus 2 short units), 12 Literacy
units and 12 Numeracy units, all for KS2. Each full unit is £60 and the
short units are £35 each.
• Interactive Revision Questions: TriEs is extremely proud to add to its
portfolio the 100 Science Interactive Revision Questions, especially
suited to home use and of course also for schools, aimed at KS2 SATS
revision. There are 33 Biology, 34 Chemistry and 33 Physics Questions
which are graded as easy, medium and hard. The 100 Science Interactive
Revision Questions (IRQs) will cost £60 and the same for the Literacy
IRQs and Numeracy IRQs.

TriEs has received Curriculum Online badging for its products.
Most importantly, TriEs has provided KS2 content for Kent County
Council’s Learning Platform ARC project.
The Aim of the Resources
The aim of the resources is to aid the individual learner, either at
home or at school, to understand a particular curriculum topic in
Science, Numeracy or Literacy, through an interactive learning process
so that children gain knowledge and understanding in the topic area.
Additionally, the resources are aimed at assisting teachers with their
lesson preparation so that they can ‘pick out’ sections for whole class
teaching.

Pedagogy underlying the TriEs resources
TRIES primary ICT resources have been written by teachers to enable
children’s understanding. They aim to motivate and inspire children
through the use of interesting graphics and animation which help
children to see what is happening and to enable them to interact with
items on screen so that they are active participants.
Literacy resources illustrate reading and writing in many contexts which
encourage children to think about and consider both everyday language,
parts of speech and creative writing. Maths activities support children
through the use of day-to-day situations and mathematical
representations which encourage children to make connections across the
different aspects of mathematics. In science as well as seeing how
various scientific features function and change, either over time or as
the result of an intervention, children are given the confidence to try
online experiments and ‘See what happens if…’
The resources include both formative and summative assessments so that
within each section or topic there may be a short recap to help children
to consolidate their learning; then, at the end of each unit, there is a
quick quiz which tests children’s knowledge across the whole of the
unit.
How are TRIES primary resources different?
TRIES resources are certainly not just ‘check and test’ like many ICT
resources. They are fundamentally about children’s learning. Each unit,
which will take children about 35 minutes to work through, is divided
into manageable learning sections. Each section then leads children
through an easily navigated sequence of progressive activities. This
format enables children to both work at their own pace and also move
back to an earlier page whenever they wish to, so that they can check
their understanding. The resources are particularly easy for children to
access and navigation through them is very straightforward.
For teachers who have access to an interactive whiteboard, the sections
in later units can be accessed page by page so that if teachers wish to
use a particular diagram, learning activity or interactive feature for
whole class teaching they can do so with ease.
Technical details
All the files for the lessons and interactive questions have been
created using Abode Macromedia Flash Professional 8. The operating
system can vary from Windows Vista right down to Windows 98. The files
will open through Internet Explorer (from Version 7 down to Version 5)
provided the latest Adobe Macromedia Shockwave Flash Player (to be
downloaded free from the Adobe website) is installed into Internet
Explorer. Alternatively, the Mozilla Firefox browser can be also used
for opening the files. The average file size is 2mb.
The software is SCORM-compliant and Whiteboard compliant.
