TOTAL SCHOOL SECURITY AT
YOUR FINGERTIP
UK Biometrics Ltd is world a market leader in the field of biometric
security systems, which can accurately scan fingerprints and use the data
to open doors or computers instantly for the authorised user.
|
Currently available
applications include door locks, safes and ICT security systems. These
products are shipped worldwide and provide easy to use, totally secure
physical and ICT access to schools, hospitals, workplaces, embassies
and hotels worldwide.
Newcastle upon Tyne based UK Biometrics is providing research and
feedback to the Home Office on biometric identification and security
syetems.
Security in schools is
vital for the safety of children, teachers and staff but current
solutions are far from ideal. Keys and swipe cards can be lost or
copied, passwords forgotten and numeric lock numbers can fall into the
wrong hands. The logistics involved in ensuring all teachers and staff
have access to both the main school area and secure areas within the
school are time consuming and cumbersome. |
 |
UK Biometrics offer the key
that cannot be lost, forgotten or copied. The users own fingerprint is the
key to open one door or as many doors as necessary. The system is
foolproof, tamper proof and simplicity itself to install and operate.
A scanner identifies fourteen key points on the users fingerprint. No
actual fingerprint is stored, so concerns about human rights can be
allayed. It is impossible to reproduce the fingerprint, or any part of the
fingerprint from data stored in the lock.
UK Biometrics offer three biometric products of interest to schools. Door
locks, PC or laptop security systems and safes. All operate on the same
fingerpring entry biometric technology.

FP-300 door lock from
UK Biometrics is designed to comply with global Fire and Safety
regulations. The door can always be opened from the inside providing a
quick exit in case of an emergency or fire. The L shaped lever reduces
the chances of clothing or other items getting caught.
FP-300 has a virtually
unbreakable and scratch resistant sensor window embedded in tough
stainless steel case. The lock is highly anti-static and resistant to
physical damage. |
 |
FP-300 has high memory
capacity with high speed and efficiency that enables 99 different
fingerprints to be registered in seconds. The unit can easily extend to
640 fingerprints at your demand. Users can be added or deleted from the
system in seconds and temporary users registered for a period of hours,
days or weeks.
FP-300 is powered by 5 AA 1.5V alkaline batteries. The power consumption
is extremely low and it can support 4000 operations. In typical use these
batteries will last 6-12 months. High quality, long life alkaline
batteries are recommended.
In case of low battery you can plug in a standard 9 Volt battery into the
socket below the keypad and the FP-300 will allow you to unlock the door
using your fingerprint. A numeric code allows access through the hidden
keypad should the batteries fail.
Installation can be quickly carried out by anyone with basic DIY skills
since the FP-300 is designed to replace standard mortar door locks.
Fitting to new doors will require basic carpentry skills but will not be
beyond the capabilities of school maintenance personnel.
In today’s information rich environment it is not only physical security
that must concern teachers and school administrators. Given that many
teenagers are adept at ICT information retrieval, school computer networks
and teachers laptops must be secure. Since passwords can be hacked and
encryptation reversed, the only totally secure solution is biometric entry
to the system or device.
A recent survey by Infosecurity Europe found that 80% of people said they
were fed up with passwords and would like a better way to login to work
computer systems.
The same survey found that
79% of people unwittingly gave away information that could be used to
steal their identity when questioned. Family names, football teams and
pets provided popular inspiration for a password.
UK Biometrics has developed
a secure system that replaces all passwords at the touch of a fingertip.
The ‘U.are.U’ scanner allows the user to logon onto their PC, encrypt or
decrypt files and access all passwords. When the registered users place
their finger on the glowing sensor window the device scans the fingerprint
image.
Security concerns and the problem of remembering passwords are a thing of
the past. BioDisk USB Flash Memory Drive is a fingerprint recognition
device for mobile computers and it is the first in the industry to combine
a Biometric Reader and storage media in a single unit. With the
proliferation of electronic information circulating on open networks in
schools, and with "anytime, anywhere" access to electronic information the
proper management of confidential data is vital. A biometric security
solution ensures that only authorised individuals can view sensitive data.
