World Challenge
World Challenge designs and delivers outdoor educational programmes for school groups. We go everywhere, from one-off, one-day UK adventures to six-week expeditions across the world and progressive programmes through the years. Young people achieve personal and team goals to develop valuable skills for later life such as teamwork, leadership, problem solving and communication; we truly provide a life changing experience!
Your journey starts here...

UK adventures and activities
World Challenge’s affordable, UK-based activities are available for  larger groups and can also be designed to fit within the curriculum or address specific school aims such as induction, transition, Prefect training, awareness of others, raising self-esteem or attendance.
We have a range of fun and challenging activities that can be delivered in school grounds and at growing number of sites across the UK.

  • School activities

If you don’t want to travel, we can come to you. We can turn any open space within your school grounds or nearby into a challenging course of practical leadership tasks or even an overnight camp site.
These courses have been run for group sizes of more than 1000 students over a number of days so there is no limit to what can be achieved!

  • Adventure Quest

Costing from from just £18 per person, these fun, action packed 1-day adventures require students to complete a daring mission.

  • Residential activities

On 3 to 7-day residential activities, teams will normally be based at a fixed point, either in a semi-permanent ‘base camp’ (a canvas village with excellent facilities and large bunk tents), an outdoor centre or wild camping in smaller dome tents.

  • The Learning to Lead Award

The Learning to Lead Award is a simple, cost-effective yet challenging leadership and personal development programme designed to improve a young person’s confidence and ‘can do’ approach to other learning opportunities inside and outside school.

The Learning to Lead Award has been designed primarily for students at Key Stage 3 as preparation for other award programmes and school based schemes of work and is designed to improve life skills.

It will help boost students’ school prospects at an early stage, whatever their background. By providing meaningful and practical lessons in teamworking and leadership through outdoor adventure, students learn how to take personal responsibility, handle risk and to make a winning team.

"The Learning to Lead Award provides a practical framework within which a wide range of essential leadership, problem solving, communication and other skills can be embedded in the revised Key Stage 3 curriculum at an affordable cost. Year 8 students at St Cyres enjoyed the activities enormously.

Some of the most unassuming characters displayed leadership skills we had not seen hitherto. Some of those who usually sail through all of their classroom activities benefited from the leadership of those of their peers for whom this experience provided a new and highly motivating taste of success."

UK expeditions
A real expedition experience without stepping outside the UK. Whether trekking on foot or paddling a canoe, the team will be completely self-sufficient, carrying everything with them that they will need to complete their journey.

Powerful lessons will be learnt as the team rely on each other to succeed in their new experiences, ranging from putting up a tent and map reading to cooking and even washing up!

Expeditions to short haul destinations
Whether you want to discover Europe’s myths and legends, trek in the land of fire and ice, complete a river expedition or summit peaks over 4000m, Europe and North Africa offers a unique and diverse experience
close to home. Expeditions to short haul destinations take place in fantastic European, Scandinavian and North African destinations where students can explore interesting cultures and new environments. They will be encouraged to take manageable risks, overcome fears, make decisions, learn how to communicate more effectively and bond as a team - essential lessons for the future.

Why choose an expedition to a short haul destination?
• Perfect option for younger students on a first trip away from home
• 1 to 2-week journeys fit easily into school holidays and half-terms
• Can be tailored as a departmental trip in geography or geology for example
• Itineraries designed to suit the school’s educational requirements
• Offers plenty of adventure in a comprehensive package!

Expeditions to long haul destinations
Choose from 45 amazing destinations worldwide. Whether it’s trekking in the lush jungles of Costa Rica, tracking biodiversity in Madagascar, or exploring ancient ruins in Thailand.

Our expeditions to long haul destinations are typically demanding 4-week journeys through countries of breathtaking natural beauty. The challenge begins long before the journey starts, with a 15-20 month programme of training, fundraising and research that provides the maximum educational impact and teaches students a great deal about responsibility and planning.

Built into the expedition is a range of community project work, trekking and cultural adventure - a unique mixture that ensures the expedition is one of the most exhilarating and rewarding team building experiences available. World Challenge will be on hand to give the team an insight into the country they are visiting, help organise project work, provide feedback from previous teams and help them make the most of their adventure.
