Brian Coates works with teachers from nursery school
through to higher education. He provides in-service training that
includes practical ideas and activities for the teaching of physical
education. All areas of activity are covered including athletic, dance,
games, gymnastics, swimming and outdoor and adventurous activities.
These areas are complemented by CPD courses for secondary school
teachers that focus on assessment, ICT and interactive teaching
strategies for the teaching of GCSE theory lessons.
Through your school you will be able to organise tailor made, whole
school or PE Department in-service training days that could focus on: |

Brian works as an independent physical education consultant as well as
working as a Teacher Fellow at University of Southampton. He has written
a number of publications for Pearson Publishing and has in recent years
delivered a variety of courses for Lighthouse, Masterclass, and Creative
Education. He has produced and sold Schemes of Work for KS1, KS2 and

Each CD-Rom is a very useful tool to assist with assessment for
learning. Children may watch video clips before the lesson (perhaps
whilst they are getting changed) to give them ideas for activity and
allow them to set their own targets for their lesson. The CD-Roms
contain - video clips and photographs, as well as providing teachers
with long term, medium term & lesson planning, to help with lesson
preparation. They also identify resources, progressions, description of
skills, safe practice, framework for assessment, etc.
The CD-Roms will improve teacher planning through a series of
progressive medium term plans. Teachers can also watch video clips of
children performing to gain ideas of activities that may be developed
with the children. They also consider safe practices; increase
opportunities for effective questioning and allow for the implementation
of assessment strategies.
