Visit the British Potato Council’s educational website to find out all about potatoes! It supports teaching children to eat healthily and it will help familiarise children with the potato’s journey from planting to eating. It contains a wide range of resources including online activities for children, details of farms happy to receive schools visits, potato recipes and worksheets that link into the formal curriculum.

Grow Your Own Potatoes
Bring learning to life by taking part in the Grow Your Own Potatoes project. 1,100 schools took part this year and spent 4 months growing their own potatoes. Teacher’s comments included:

We have thoroughly enjoyed growing, harvesting and eating our potatoes. The learning opportunities have been fantastic and the resources you provided very helpful.

We have had a tremendous time taking part in the competition. The children have been excited all the way through. They have learned an awful lot.

The project is supported by its own area on www.potatoesforschools.org.uk. It includes worksheets, video clips, a game and even potato cam. Visit the site to find out more.

School Meals
As well as offering resources to support activity in the classroom we have also produced 2 packs for school caterers. Potatoes are a healthy and nutritious food for children.

The British Potato Council
The British Potato Council is a Non-Departmental Public Body, so is a non-commercial organisation. It’s actually funded by a levy on all British potato growers and those who trade their crop. Helping to educate children on where food comes from and the importance of healthy eating is set as a key priority by these levy payers.
