The Wildlife Park at Cricket St Thomas, situated in a beautiful valley in the heart of south Somerset is where you can get up close to more than 500 animals from around the world and learn more about wildlife conservation and endangered species. We are best known for the lemur Wood, which is the largest walk through lemur exhibit in the world.

We are able to cater for all areas of the curriculum and can provide information, talks and themed trails for virtually any subject. We have a teaching space and for higher- level students we have a pc suite that can be utilised.

We are currently in collaboration with a number of educational establishments with whom we are involved in long term projects (over 6 weeks).

•  Kingston Maurward College – The students take part in an enclosure design contest. This meets    the curriculum needs of the 2nd year degree students, provides assessment opportunity and    gives them a real life exercise. In a recent QAA review this collaboration was held up as the best    example of theory into practise that the panel had encountered.

•  Fairmead School – Visits take place at the wildlife park, which are then used back at the school     as a basis for extension work and covers creative writing, science and geography amongst     others. Schools artefacts are also provided for the schools project table to stimulate further     investigation

“Our School has been visiting Cricket St Thomas for the last 18 months as part of our vocational education provision. We have found the experience to be hugely beneficial and would endorse it without hesitation. The facilities are superb and the staff are knowledgeable, approachable and child friendly! We feel fortunate to be able to use such an excellent resource”.
Leon Wellman. Assistant Head – Fairmead School, Yeovil, Somerset.

The Education department caters for groups of all ages, requirements and academic levels. Past groups have ranged from play groups and pre-school, special needs groups with learning difficulties, groups of Russian children, degree students studying animal management and A-Level leisure & Tourism students.

To date, the education departments dynamic reactive approach has succeeded n meeting and surpassing the needs and expectations of all visitor requests.
