BECTA
Anti theft guidance for the interactive whiteboards funding 2004-2005
Crime
figures suggest that projectors are a high-risk technology with respect to
theft, and purchasers are strongly encouraged to consider the security of
the equipment once installed. All suppliers are required under the
initiative to offer security devices, and these options are available to
view on the online catalogue but these costs are not able to be met from
this funding.
If the school or LEA does not have alternative
security arrangements in place, then purchasers should look at the options
available when choosing interactive whiteboards and/or suppliers.
Interactive whiteboards are ultimately owned by the school and in the event
of loss or theft of any of the interactive whiteboard equipment; the LEA is
not obliged to replace it.
While insurance or standalone security products cannot be purchased with the
funding from the initiative, we would encourage appropriate projector
security precautions to be taken. If in doubt as to eligibility, please
contact BECTA at IWB@becta.org.uk.
