The British Othello
Federation promotes the game of Othello in the UK. It provides a
newsletter for its members, organises tournaments throughout the country,
and sends a team to the World Championships each year.

The strategy boardgame
Othello was adapted from the popular Victorian game known as Reversi.
It was re-invented in Japan by Shakespearean scholar Goro Hasegawa,
who named the game Othello because of the sudden reverses of fortune
that are a feature of the game. It is a game suitable for players of
all ages, and can be played purely for relaxation and enjoyment, but
it is also a complex strategy game.
Othello is played seriously all over the world, but is most popular in
Japan and Europe. British teams have won the World Championship on
three occasions, most recently in 1997. |

The Federation organises: Regional Tournaments throughout the spring and
summer, the National Championships in September, a major International
Tournament in February, and occasional other events. New players are
welcome at all our events. There are also several websites where players
of all abilities and all nationalities are welcome to play online.
The Federation's newsletter appears twice a year, and provides information
on past and future tournaments, puzzles, humorous articles, game analyses,
and tips on how to improve your game.
More information on all the Federation's activities, including information
on how to join the Federation, can be found on our website.
