"Please support Concern's Foodaid appeal -
every penny you collect will make a real difference to the lives of
children in the developing world. Remember, just 25p provides enough rice
for a whole family for one day."
What
is FoodAid?
FoodAid celebrates the United
Nations World Food Day on October 16th. The idea is to raise funds for
some of the world's poorest people and discover some important and
fascinating facts about food around the world. Last year, over 1,000
schools throughout the country joined forces to support FoodAid and raised
over £90,000 - a fantastic amount. This year we hope that even more
schools will take part and together we can break the £100,000 barrier!
How does FoodAid work?
Your FoodAid appeal can take place over any
week in the Autumn term although some schools take part around UN world
food day on October 16th. Simply register your school with Concern and you
will receive your own FoodAid kit including a special CD-ROM, posters and
stickers. As well as fundraising ideas, the CD includes a number of lesson
plans, which can be used in a fun and creative way to educate pupils about
food. The outlines have been written in consultation with experienced
teachers and with the requirements of the National Curriculum (Key Stage
1, 2, 3 & 4). In addition a specially commissioned pop song is on the CD,
written for your pupils to learn and then perform as their own fundraising
initiative. It's their chance to be pop stars for a day!
What happens to the money?
Money raised will help to
support Concern's food aid projects throughout the developing world. In
times of emergency we organise feeding programmes for the most vulnerable
people in countries like Ethiopia and Malawi. Our long-term projects in
countries like Cambodia, Tanzania and Bangladesh help people fight the
risk of hunger through improved farming techniques, food supply and water
projects. Taking part in FoodAid will not only be great fun ... you'll
also be helping to save lives.
It's so easy to make a
