....................................The
Digital Revolution Starts Here.......................................
About
Digital Cameras?
Digital Cameras use a
CCD (a light sensitive chip) to capture images which are then stored as
files in either the cameras internal memory or on to a removable storage
flash card. This flash card comes in many forms and is based around static
memory (no moving parts). Generally speaking digital cameras offer a similar
level of automation or control to conventional cameras. Cameras are labelled
in order of resolution (mega pixels) -- the higher generally means the
better!
Benefits
Of A Digital Camera?
The benfits of Digital
Cameras outweigh that of traditional equipment...especially for schools!!.
The initial cost implication of a digital set-up may be high (with respect
to traditional equipment) but over a small period of time this will be
repayed over and over. With traditional equipment you have to wait for
processing and development of a film but with digital you are in control
of your own processing. Images taken from the memory card can be first
viewed (within the camera) and then deleted as required or simply viewed
on the PC. Then cutting, cropping, titling, printing can take place at
your own leisure. .
How
do we get our images off the camera?
Images come in the form
of electronic information and can be downloaded to the PC via many methods.
Card reader/writers are the most effective form of transfer. Most high
street printers will now accept images in the form of electronic files
to be printed onto photo paper. With digital you don't have to print all
your pictures you can simply archive images on to your hard drive or burn
on to a CD. .
Image
Qualtiy
?
Digital cameras are capable
of superb results (especally the latest 2 megapixel and above cameras)
and match the quality if not better most compact cameras. You would be
hard pushed to tell the difference in the quality of two images taken from
both forms. .
Computer
Systems Requirements?
Generally most modern
PC's which run on Win98 or above, with modest hard-drive and USB port,
are all you need to download. All software and drivers for cameras come
complete with the camera.
