History People -
helping to bring history to life
|
OUR HISTORY
The History People is a family business based in Gloucestershire which
has been visiting schools for the last 9 years bringing history to
life for thousands of children through the use of costumed characters,
and replica artefacts covering most KS1 & 2 history topics.
SUPPORTING TEACHERS
Recognising that there are only so many schools which are within
travelling distance of their base in Gloucestershire, the History
People have embarked on a programme of providing resources which are
available to schools and children across the country. This takes a
number of different forms:- |
 |
WEB SITE
The History People web site has been specially designed for children at
KS1 & 2 levels to access and enjoy using. There are sections on most of
the National Curriculum history topic areas including ‘History of Toys’.

RESOURCE MATERIAL – R&R packs
These Resource & Reference packs contain detailed teacher’s notes,
worksheets, suggested activities, coloured pictures, posters and a HISTree
timeline poster. They form what is probably the most detailed and
comprehensive series of Resource packs available to teachers. So whether
you are a newly qualified teacher, or just want to find new ways of
talking about your topic you will be delighted at what these packs can

COMMERATIVE RESOURCE
PACKS
2005 sees the 60th anniversary of VE Day in 1945, the bicentenary of the
Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder
Plot in 1605. To help commemorate these anniversaries two special resource
packs have been created namely
-
‘Least we forget’ – a
commemoration of the war years
-
‘Gunpowder, treason and
plot’ – a detailed look at the background to the events of 1605
SCHOOL VISITS
These are available only to schools in the counties surrounding
Gloucestershire. Visits can be either for a half or a whole day. In both
cases costumed characters bring with them a wide range of genuine and
replica artefacts relevant to the time period.
Some of the comments we have received from teachers can be viewed on our
web site. |

MYSTERY STORY CARDS
Creative writing is made easy for children of all ages through the use of
this series of cards which have been based upon medieval illuminated
script lettering.
Children’s interest is first stimulated by colouring in the cards and
seeing what they can identify in the pictures, and then when it comes to
writing or telling a story it all comes down to which card or cards are
picked out. Even the least creative child cannot fail to be inspired by
these cards
