Improve is the Skills
Sector Council for Food and Drink Manufacturing and Processing across the
UK and part of the Skills for Business Network, sponsored by the
Department for Learning and Skills.
Improve was established July 2004 as the recognised authority on skill
development in the UK Food and Drink Industry. Our vision is ‘to deliver
more profit to employers through skills’. This is an ambitious aim and we
already have an ambitious programme of activity in place to deliver the
results. Improve will represent and support the following sectors:
|
|
 |
Improve will work with
employers, training providers and Government to improve productivity and
competitiveness in our industry across the UK. To do this Improve will
become the centre of excellence on all information and research into
employment matters related to skills. We will also help recruit 100,000
new employees to the sector in the next eight years, retain the 650,000
employees working in the industry and develop the new and existing
workforce’s skills.
We have an excellent careers resource on our website, called ‘Roots!’
which includes a workbook that students can complete. This provides a self
assessment that invites to students to think about their strengths and
weaknesses, what to say in an interview and hints and tips on completing
application forms and writing CV’s. It also describes in detail all about
the different types of jobs that are available in the food and drink
manufacturing industry. You can also find out information on the different
types of funding available for students plus find relevant and inspiring
case studies of individuals in the industry.
|
There is a section on
the website about apprenticeships in food and drink manufacturing,
plus we are in the process of developing a green card, which is a
passport to the industry. This green card will provide students with a
record of achievement that will continue to grow as they build their
career in the industry.
