Learndirect has been developed by the University for Industry with a remit from the Government to provide post 16 learning. This learning will help people with little or no qualifications, it provides them with the skills they need for employability. Learndirect operates a network of more than 2,000 online learning centres in England, Wales and Northern Ireland providing access to a range of e-learning opportunities. Learndirect is available to individuals wanting to better themselves and to employers looking for a way to develop the skills in their workforce.

Learndirect offers over 550 different courses covering a variety of subjects, including management, IT, Skills for Life and languages, at all levels. Three quarters are available online which allows people to work from home, at work or at a Learndirect centre. They work with a range of partners including BBC Education, Channel 4 and NIACE, and also provide helplines for sector skills councils including Skillsmart (retail) and SEMTA (Science, Engineering, Manufacturing).
