Selaine's own experience of school sports emphasises how important it is to educate girls about sports bras for exercise. Selaine sprinted for her school up until the age of 14, when one too many taunts about "black eyes" helped make her another overweight teenager who avoided PE whenever possible. She considers herself to be fortunate in returning to physical exercise in her twenties and now teaches aerobics, personal trains and runs again (although quite a lot slower these days!).

In addition to the embarrassment the absence of a sports bra can cause, it may also damage the bust. The Coopers Ligaments that hold up the bust stretch with excessive movement. Too much bouncing and the bust will droop - permanently! Regardless of size of bust the Coopers Ligaments will stretch with too much bouncing, which will cause your boobs to droop permanently. And I think most of us would agree a pair of saggy boobs whatever the size is not terribly attractive!

Plus this bust movement can be painful. An alarming 56%* of women experience breast pain when exercising.

 

The important points to look for are that a sports bra significantly reduces the movement of the bust for the activity you plan to perform in it. It should fit snuggly but not so tight you can't breathe and there should be no bulges of gaps. In general for larger busts the encapsulation style sports bras offer more support. In the past these have looked like something that your great-grandmother might have worn last century, however, their appearance is improving all the time. And even if not the sexiest item of lingerie in your wardrobe, it should be the most practical.
