MAJOR
LEAGUE BASEBALL
SAYS
PLAY BALL!
Major
League Baseball has developed a comprehensive and integrated youth
development package aimed at growing youth baseball and softball leagues
all over the UK. The
development package has been specially designed to encourage strong
community participation and to maximise opportunities and enjoyment for
both boys and girls.
Play
Ball!
consists of three main programmes:
MLB
PLAY BALL! ROADSHOW
The
MLB Roadshow burst onto
the scene two year’s ago to a chorus of approval with the crew of Major
League Baseball coaches and Great Britain players thrilling school
audiences everywhere they went and leaving each day with an army of
excited new fans eager for more.
Each
school visit includes a lively morning presentation to the whole school
which introduces some of the game’s basic rules and personalities
through audience participation and video footage.
Through the day classes are invited to participate in activity
sessions with the coaches utilising the MLB
Roadshow’s purpose built inflatable batting cage and pitching
tunnel. In the classroom,
pupils also have the chance to complete specially designed baseball themed
workbooks with their teachers.
PITCH,
HIT & RUN
Pitch,
Hit & Run
is
Major League Baseball’s schools programme operated by BaseballSoftballUK
and introduces the fundamentals of the games of both baseball and
softball inside the primary school PE curriculum.
Pitch,
Hit & Run
is
supported by thorough teacher training courses and a comprehensive pack of
resources. The school pack,
includes a free-to-use bag of equipment, a clear and user-friendly
resource manual with easy-to-follow lesson plans and instructions, an
instructional video, and promotional posters for distribution to all
participating pupils.
PLAY
BALL YOUTH LEAGUES!
The
Play Ball! Youth
Leagues are an opportunity for children to play baseball/softball
outside of the school environment.
Play
Ball! provides a comprehensive start-up pack of equipment, enough
to operate four local youth teams, basic team uniforms, coach education
sessions (led by both MLB and BaseballSoftballUK
personnel) and support materials for both kids and adults.
Each
local league team enjoys the excitement of being twinned with one of the
actual Major League teams. Each
player receives their own baseball cap and gets to play in the uniform of
their MLB team. And at the
end of the season, each local league selects fifteen “All-Stars” to
represent them in the Play Ball! World
Championship Series.
