Neate Publishing is a new
dynamic company based in Winchester. They have just completed a
ground-breaking series of Science and Literacy books for 4 to 12 year
olds. The publishing team spent hours writing texts that were highly
attractive and very readable for all age groups. A fresh approach was
taken to write in a style that appealed to both boys and girls and which
is different from traditional information texts. This has paid off. Now, 2
years after they started, the books are selling across the UK and abroad.
Large orders have been received from South Africa and recent interest
shown by Malaysia, Thailand and the USA. A great beginning for a small
team.

They write and publish books
to encourage children's reading for information and development of the
necessary reading skills to do this easily. The aim is to make reading for
information as much fun as reading a story. Most adults feel confident
about helping children read stories but they do not always know how to
help children read for information (a skill needed for daily adult life).

Their published materials also
include a new classroom resource to develop children's notemaking and
research skills. Informative, simple and practical to use Posters guide
the teachers and children through the process in easy stages.

Bobbie Neate, known for her
in-service talks on all aspects of literacy, continues to explore with
teachers and others, innovative ways to support the development of
children's literacy. The published materials may also be used in settings
other than schools; they have been used for Voluntary Reading Programs.
The first series of books, published in 3 sets, is based on Science and
Literacy. (The series is written for 4-12 year olds.) In each set there
are 3 titles and each title has two editions. One edition is for the
child. The other edition for the teacher / classroom assistant / parents,
has activities and teaching points for both literacy and science. Adults
can have fun sharing these imaginative activities with the children making
learning an enjoyable journey.

The books can be bought
individually making them suitable for class/school libraries or in a
Guided Reading Pack of 1 adult copy and 6 children copies. The carefully
written texts also make them suitable for children with SEN and EAL. The
cross-curricula design of the books helps teachers meet the NLS and NC
requirements in an efficient way.
An Interactive Dictionary for young children is full of ideas and
activities through which they will learn dictionary skills, the sequence
of the alphabet and many high frequency words.
Check the website for detailed information on all the titles, promotional
offers and further activities for teachers and children.
