The mission of the Royal
Botanical Gardens is ‘To enable better management of the Earth's
environment by increasing knowledge and understanding of the plant and
fungal kingdoms - the basis of life on earth’. The Royal Botanical Gardens
contains a collection of living and preserved plants, and botanical
information, it forms an encyclopaedia of knowledge about plants. Their
website contains extensive information regarding conservation and wildlife
and science and horticulture, there is also educational information for
students and teachers along with opening times and admission prices for
anyone wishing to visit.
Kew is a world-class
research and conservation organisation, and a major provider of
educational programmes across the curriculum. Its work is centred on 2
locations, Kew Gardens and Wakehurst Place. Kew has excellent educational
value from pre-school to graduate. Every year thousands of young people
find out about science, geography, art and much more in the variety of
habitats and venues that are available.
Wakehurst Place offers
hands-on seed conservation, habitat preservation, and woodland management.
It also gives students the experience of learning in the mansion labs,
field study centre, nature reserves, and the Millennium Seed Bank.
