The WELSH INTERNATIONAL CLIMBING CENTRE is found 30 minutes North of CARDIFF, off junction 32 of the M4. We offer a wide range of traditional outdoor pursuits plus we have Wales' largest indoor climbing centre comprising the faces introductory wall plus the large climbing & competition walls, two bouldering areas, two classrooms, a function room, cafe, gym, extensive grounds all set in the Taff Bargoed park with cycle routes, walkways & kayaking lakes.

We offer exciting, challenging days out for school groups of all ages and abilities. We tailor make the day to suit the requirements of the class.

We have recently introduced a two-day course to complete the majority of the portfolio requirements for the Wider Key Skills of Working with Others & Problem Solving at level two with great success through local sixth form colleges & schools. Including a pilot course for the New Welsh "Bac".

Facilities:

We have 6 separate bunkrooms housing from 4 to 16 in a combination of en suite & shared facilities. All meals are provided and we can cater for all dietary requirements. The centre has disabled access to the building & some of the bunkrooms.

We welcome visits from staff before hand & to make this easier for you will put you up free of charge in our bunkrooms midweek during a site inspection.

We have copies of Risk Assessments, Safety Policy electronically stored so these can be e mailed to you. All staff have been CRB  checked & we have a comprehensive child protection policy.

Locality:
The 63 hectare country park of the Taff Bargoed Valley, once dominated by three collieries, now features lakes, cycle paths and a network of nature trails which give access to the beautiful surrounding moor lands and woods. At the northern end of the valley WICC makes an ideal base for a variety of school group residential visits because:-
 

  • it has excellent WTB 3 Star rated hostel accommodation for parties of up to 45

  • an AALA licensed activity provider, it has the staff and facilities to provide a range of activities from indoor climbing on its international standard climbing walls, caving in its artificial complex, canoeing on the lakes in the valley, orienteering, high ropes course and a host of team building exercises all on site.

  • the immediate surrounding environment provides opportunities for environmental studies

  • excellent attractions such as Caerphilly Castle, Llancaiach Fawr and the Rhondda Heritage Park

  • all within a half hour drive time
