What Sun Power Yoga can offer your Facility

Enrich your Timetable
Anne-Marie Newland founded Sun Power Yoga after finding that yoga in general was still living in the past. 8,000 years old doesn’t mean it can’t change and grow.

I like to see my style of yoga for students and teachers as a modern contemporary style but still laced with an ancient philosophy.

I came to yoga in a dark and particular challenging part of my life.
I was young and pregnant to a man I loved but who had problems with violence. He had experienced violence himself as a child, watching his father hit his mother. He was playing out a role.

I liked him; he was a good person, funny and talented. His darker side haunted him and then it began to shape him.

When I fell pregnant and yes we were protected! I had no option at that time but to abort. I do not regret that decision as I know my life would not be what it is now had I made another one. My parents were really wonderful but in the end it was my life.

I picked up a yoga book at the local library and read it. I practised the poses every day and began to feel a still calm fall over me.   I sought out a local class with a teacher who was dynamic and strong. I told her all about my situation. I think she was shocked I was so open for someone so young. All those years ago, in the 70’s things were not really that cool!   She suggested I was careful during class. You see even though I had made my mind up to abort, I still looked after the baby. I fed myself well and was kind to myself. I had been unable to do that for some time.

Yoga gave me the space to look inside. As if the world had stopped still and I had time to see clearly.

28 years later I have four diverse and wonderful children and I remember how easy it was for life and circumstances to take over.

I think that is why I like to work with teenagers. They can benefit so much from the feeling of taking control over their mind, body and situations.

Yoga helps with stress but more than that it gives you practical tools you can use in all sorts of situations.

Yoga teaches us how to stop the mind whirling around when things get tough. Helps maintain a balance of work and play.

YOGA DEVELOPS SELF-AWARENESS   -   NOT SELF-OBSESSION

I offer in-house training for primary, secondary and college teachers and lecturers. The added advantage of having this skill is that it works in so many areas. Yoga can be added to a timetable as part of PE or PHSE. It can be used in the help of focus and concentration for those students with ADHD or dyslexia.
It can create an option for lunch clubs and after school clubs.

I already have many teachers either interested or have finished courses and are now introducing yoga techniques into a class situation as well as in the sports hall.

Children, teenagers and stressed out staff (!) can gain so much from yoga. For children there are games to play to help with social skills, breath work and mental focus. Yoga is an asset for those with disabilities in fact I can have all levels of abilities in a class with no problems except that we all gain from watching others enjoy exercising!

Yoga allows us to enjoy silence with out the fear of it.
Our children’s lives are so noisy, why do children’s presenters have to shout all the time? Why as adults do we feel uncomfortable in silence?
Yoga helps us to relax in silence and to listen to it. This is the place where we find a safe place to spend some time. I wish I had known about yoga when I was a ballet dancer, when I could not eat for fear of putting on weight or not being liked if I did.
Never really breathing. Never really living.

Our children need their lives enriching and as adults we have a chance to help them achieve that and gain so much ourselves!

If you would be interested in either a master class or in house training please contact me. I travel giving lectures and seminars.
